Senate News
Updates from your Senate!
Night at the Library
Proposal 25-15, started by Senators Idalyd Granados and Monica Orozco, aims to extend library hours past 12 AM for TWU students and community members. The proposal started in late November, but due to dead week and finals research could not properly start. Now that a new semester has started, however, the senators are ready to hear what students have to say. When asked about the proposal, Senator Orozco said that extended hours also meant extended safety for students worried about walking back to their dorms or cars. Color printing, a valuable resource the library offers, also disappears on campus after the library closes. Once they obtain the results of the survey, they will bring it to library administrators and the Senate to increase academic success and personal safety. "With your support, we can create a library system that work swith our community needs in ways that would allow all students and community members to grow!" said Senator Orozco. If you are interested in being a part of the research for Proposal 25-15, click on the flyer to fill out the survey.
Late Night Laps Makes a Splash in Senate
On February 10th, Resolution 25-02, Late Night Laps, was passed by the Senate 8-0. The resolution aims to extend pool hours for students. Originally, the pool was open from 11 AM - 1 PM, making it inaccessible for students with classes at that time. After many email exchanges and research into other university's pool hours, Senator Aliya Daniel was able to temporarily extend pool hours to 7 - 9 PM. While the first day did not go well, the second day saw more than 35 people stop by and destress after a long day of class. The Executive Director of Athletics at TWU, Sandee Mott, was happy with the attendance and worked with Senator Daniel to find a permanent time. While Senator Daniel calls it a "living resolution" because of the work that still needs to be done for it to be implemented, she seems happy with the results of her work.
When asked about her next proposal, Senator Daniel said she will stay within the realms of athletics. It will be focused on increasing transparency over how athlete hours are audited to ensure complete accountability for student athletes.
